My name is Helen Bates and I am the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO). I have taught at Buxton Infant School for 11 years and I am very proud of our school’s record and reputation for inclusion. I have been in the role of SENCO for the last 4 years and gained my NASENCo (National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination) 3 years ago. My role in school is to support the identification of children with special educational needs and to co-ordinate the provision for them. I liaise with parents and teachers of children with any additional needs, as well as with external agencies and educational psychologists.
Where possible we aim to get to know all the children starting at our school well before they enter the Foundation Stage and have excellent links with the local nurseries and preschool provision.
In this section you will find our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Policy, which is reviewed annually, and the SEND Information Report, which gives more details about SEND provision at BIS.
